Two kinds of people

There are two kinds of people in the world; the kind that think there are two kinds of people, and the kind that don’t.

Now that the question is settled, the actual two kinds of people are what I call ‘city’ people and ‘country’ people.

City people are usually cynical and suspicious, probably because of the exposures they are subjected to in an environment where most other people are strangers, while country people are usually open and rather trusting when encountering someone new in their home environment.

I’m a country boy, and have paid the price along the way for that aspect of my approach to people I meet. A new acquaintance is treated as if they can be trusted until they prove me wrong, instead of with suspicion until they prove themselves trustworthy.

Plato’s Republic describes a community limited ideally to 5000 members, which he thought was the maximum practicable number of people one person could become familiar with in everyday life. He thought that once laws had to be written and police were required to enforce them, there was no civilization.

There’s at least one place in the world where people live in civilization here in the 21st century.

It’s a country place; ergo, country people are the civilized ones.

So, you can get the best marine insurance available anywhere at any price from Rob’s Country Boy Marine Insurance Company, but don’t ruin my trust or I’ll hunt you down and make you eat so much chocolate ice cream you will barf to death!
